Our memory is all we truly have that’s our own. Each present moment we experience is fleeting, and the future is but a potential memory, waiting to become the present - or not. Apart from the tangible things we leave behind, it’s up to the tenuous, ultimately fallible memories of those we know to survive us.
I don’t understand a lot of what I do, either, but I don’t see comprehension to be a prerequisite for expression. For me, photography has always been more about responding to, and making tangible, what I see and experience, and less about telling a story or illustrating a concept. That, coupled with a desire to refine each image to its essence - whatever it may be - to create as pure an image as possible.
Here’s what others have said about my work, which often ends up being more accurate:
"All of these pictures represent what can easily be found, but is not appreciated enough."
"Simple pictures have stories hidden inside."
Here's an article about me where I go into detail about my background, influences and process.
